Makana North Shore Urgent Care & Dermatology is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and highly organized Medical Assistant to join our clinical team in Princeville, Kauaʻi.
As a small independent clinic serving our North Shore community, our Medical Assistants play an essential role in supporting patient flow, provider efficiency, and excellent patient care across both Urgent Care and Dermatology services.
This is a hands-on, team-oriented role ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced clinical environment and enjoys both direct patient interaction and operational support.
 
Position Summary
The Medical Assistant provides task-oriented clinical and administrative support to nursing staff and providers. Responsibilities may include patient rooming, obtaining vital signs, assisting with procedures, specimen collection, point-of-care testing, supply management, and supporting smooth clinic flow.
This role works closely with registered nurses, physician assistants, and providers to ensure safe, efficient, and patient-centered care while working within established scope of practice and competency requirements.
 
Responsibilities
The Medical Assistant plays a key role in supporting patient flow and provider efficiency across both Urgent Care and Dermatology services. Responsibilities include welcoming and rooming patients, obtaining and documenting vital signs, collecting brief intake information, and promptly communicating any abnormal findings to the RN or provider.
This role also supports clinical procedures by preparing rooms and supplies, assisting providers during treatments and exams, performing approved point-of-care testing, blood draws, and select injections after competency sign-off, and assisting with wound care, splinting, and other delegated clinical tasks within scope.
Additional responsibilities include room turnover, stocking supplies, completing daily equipment and safety checklists, assisting with pathology report workflow in Dermatology, providing discharge paperwork as directed, and helping maintain an organized, efficient, and welcoming clinical environment. As part of a small independent clinic team, this position may also assist with administrative tasks, special projects, workflow improvement initiatives, and other duties as needed to support clinic operations.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Medical Assistant experience preferred
  • Certification as a Medical Assistant preferred but not required depending on experience
  • Experience in urgent care, dermatology, or outpatient clinic settings preferred
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced clinical environment
  • Comfortable working as part of a collaborative healthcare team

Makana North Shore Urgent Care is seeking a compassionate, clinically strong, and team-oriented Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to join our urgent care team in Princeville, Kauaʻi on a per diem basis.
 
This role is ideal for an experienced provider seeking flexible scheduling, supplemental work, or temporary increased hours based on clinic needs and seasonal patient volume. Additional shifts and expanded hours may be available temporarily to support provider coverage and clinic growth.

Position Summary
The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will independently evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients presenting with acute illnesses, injuries, and urgent medical concerns across the lifespan.
Responsibilities include obtaining histories and physical examinations, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, performing minor procedures, prescribing medications, and providing discharge instructions and follow-up recommendations.
This role works closely with nursing staff, medical assistants, x-ray personnel, and clinic leadership to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality care in a fast-paced walk-in urgent care setting.
 
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include evaluating and treating patients with acute illnesses and minor injuries, ordering and interpreting laboratory and imaging studies, developing treatment plans, prescribing medications, and providing patient education and follow-up instructions.
This role may also include procedures such as wound repair, incision and drainage, splinting, foreign body removal, minor dermatologic procedures, and other urgent care interventions within scope and competency.
As part of a small independent clinic team, this position may also support workflow improvement initiatives, quality projects, clinical protocols, administrative projects, and other operational support needs as required.
 
Qualifications
  • Current Hawaiʻi NP or PA license required
  • Board certification as Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant required
  • DEA registration required
  • BLS certification required
  • ACLS required
  • Minimum 2 years of urgent care, emergency medicine, family medicine, or acute care experience preferred
  • Strong procedural and clinical decision-making skills
  • Experience interpreting x-rays, EKGs, and point-of-care testing preferred
  • Excellent communication and patient-centered care skills

Work Environment
This is a fast-paced outpatient urgent care setting that requires frequent standing, walking, and the ability to respond efficiently to varying patient acuity. PPE is provided and required in accordance with clinic safety standards.

Clinic Hours / Schedule
Clinic hours are Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, with weekend hours typically 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
 
Shifts may vary and may include 8-hour or 12-hour shifts depending on clinic needs and staffing. Typical schedules may include opening, mid, closing, and weekend shifts, with occasional extended 12-hour coverage. Some schedule flexibility may be available.
