Your Online Visit at Makana Dermatology

Telehealth is the use of videoconferencing technology that allows patients to have a live, real-time online appointment with their dermatology provider, almost as if they were in the same room.

We are pleased to extend dermatology care to patients via Doxy.me, a completely secure telehealth portal. Medicare and many commercial insurances cover telehealth appointments in the same way they cover an in-office appointment. Please check coverage with your insurance carrier prior to scheduling your appointment. For patients whose insurance does not cover telehealth appointments, we also offer a self-pay rate. (As with a regular office visit, patients are responsible for making their copayment prior to their appointment.) Please note that you cannot be on vacation and must be in the state of Hawaii during the visit.

Call 808-320-7300 to schedule an online telemedicine visit. You can also email [email protected] to request an appointment. After scheduling, you will receive an email with your appointment date/time, a telehealth consent form to sign, and a link to enter a virtual waiting room. Please use the highest speed internet possible and the newest technology/equipment you have available to maximize our ability to visualize your skin condition. You must have a device with a functioning camera or webcam. Enter the virtual waiting room at least 5-10 minutes prior to your appointment time. When our staff is ready, we will link to your online visit and the appointment will begin. Please make co-payments online before your appointment. You can make a secure online payment here

Medicare and many commercial insurances for which we are in-network cover telemedicine visits.  Please check with your plan prior to scheduling. For insured patients who have telehealth as a covered benefit, we will bill your insurance company in the same way we do in-office visits. You will be responsible for co-pays and deductibles as normal. For patients who do not have telehealth appointments as a covered benefit, the self-pay rate is $100, payable online or by phone prior to your appointment.

Yes. Makana Dermatology has implemented a secure, HIPAA-compliant telemedicine platform called Doxy.me. The information from your visit will only be stored in our normal electronic health record, as it would be for your in-person visit.

  • Acne, eczema, rashes, psoriasis, and many other dermatologic conditions can be accurately diagnosed and treated.
  • Spot checks for concerning lesions are also possible, although we will need particularly high-quality video. We may also request that photographs be sent to our secure email address as part of the visit.
  • It is possible that we may require a follow-up visit in the office if we feel it is necessary to confidently diagnose the condition.
  • Full-body skin examinations are not possible with telemedicine.

If a procedure is required to diagnose or treat your condition, we will schedule an in-office visit at a later date.
